I Love Love Love When He Orders My Drink In Advance So It's Waiting for Me When I Arrive

From Jackie, who digs a gent who makes it a point to remember her drink of choice:
I’m always late. Always. I don’t know if it’s due to an underestimation of how long it takes for me to get from my house to anywhere in the city (5 minutes, right?) or if it’s because the thought of waiting for someone alone in a bar makes me nervous, but 5-10 minutes late is my calling card.
This usually means that on a date, the guy is waiting for me at the bar ordering a drink. This was par for the course with a guy that I was dating last summer. We had been seeing one another for a couple of weeks, which was long enough for him to know that meeting up at 9 PM meant that he’d be getting a text from me at 9 saying I’d be there “soon.”
When I finally made it, he had ordered himself a beer and there was another drink next to him. Thinking that he probably ran into someone he knew, I headed towards the seat on the other side. Wait. No. He patted the seat with the drink and said, “I got you a drink!”
Now the modern girl in me immediately saw this dubious drink as an affront to independent women everywhere. How dare he assume to know what I want? But as I looked a little closer, I realized that it was indeed a whiskey on the rocks. Not only is that my drink of choice, but I took a sip and it was Bulleit. And, it wasn't bourbon; it was rye!
He knows what's up
Not only has this man remembered that I love whiskey but he remembered that I prefer RYE whiskeys AND the brand!
Fireworks went off. Cartoon heart bubbles popped. I don’t need a guy to do this every single time we kick it, but the fact that he cared enough to remember exactly what I drink makes me realize that, contrary to popular belief, chivalry is not dead. It has just realized that drinks are more important than flowers.

A lady that drinks whiskey is definitely dating material.

Wouldn't love this if a guy did it without having met me or without knowing my drink, but showing that he remembers what I like and having it ready for me is a HUGE point earner.

Gotta give props to any guy who doesn't automatically order you a vodka and soda!

Definite proof that chivalry is not dead, and that gentlemen still exist. At the end of the day, what we like to call chivalry is just a good, considerate man acting as such. It's a shame it's so rare these days.

the 13 yo girl in me is squeeing at the chivalry, the 23 yo is checking for roofies (but drinking anyway cause you know free booze!) and the 33 yo is just happy someone is paying attention

I hope you married him, that one's a keeper

He even knew to time it for the ice to melt just enought to cool the whiskey for the perfect sip. Lucky you.

Long live chivalry! It's the little things that make us feel special. And a man who does this is just wondrous.

Now I really want to try Bulleit!! And you're right..flowers are overrated...a stiff drink calms the nerves and rescues me from dating jitters!

This guy is thoughtful! So nice that he wasn't just thinking of himself but wanted you to have what you wanted as soon as you arrived. He probably thought it was hot that you drink rye!

She ain't into wine and roses
Beer just makes her turn up her nose
And, she can't stand the thought of sippin' champagne
No Cuervo Gold Margaritas
Just ain't enough good burn in tequila
She needs somethin' with a little more edge and a little more pain
She's my little whiskey Girl...

OMG this guys sounds AMAZING! I wish you both the best! (But if you're stupid enough to let him go, give a girl a holla, cause I call dibs!)

I love this post and I too thought chivalry was dead. This post has made me believe that perhaps women can still get those butterflies in their stomach while modernly independent.

I'd love to hear this woman's perspective on dating more. Could always use some stories out there to remind me that we, as women, can have it all: independent success, strength, taste and someone to share that with who respects and admires our likes.

I was always under the impression that it was rude to start before my date had arrived, so I usually don't order anything until she has.

Even if it's someone I know and may already know their preference. Unless you know exactly when they'll arrive, their drink may get warm, or the delicious rye he remembered to order you might get watered down.

The way I saw it, the party doesn't start until she arrives. That way we both have fresh drinks we can dive into together. Is that not the right way to look at it?
